What makes The Alchemist so good?
At The Alchemist, cocktails aren’t just cocktails, but theatre. With a team of dedicated mixologists who possess an obsessive eye for detail, every cocktail is meticulously crafted to not only tantalise the taste buds but also to captivate the imagination. You’ll see colours, smoke, fire, and cocktails delivered to you in weird and wonderful contraptions.

What truly sets The Alchemist apart, however, is not just its offerings but also its ambiance. Stepping into one of its mystical venues, guests will be transported to a realm where aesthetics merge with magic. The decor is nothing short of mystical. Surreal and eye-catching art adorns the walls. Floor-to-ceiling windows bathe the space in natural light, illuminating the dramatic drinks that are as much a feast for the eyes as they are for the palate.
But beyond mere visual appeal, the design of The Alchemist is a narrative in itself, weaving together elements of cosmic wonder. Patterns and forms reminiscent of planets invite guests to ponder the mysteries of existence.

Why the drinks are so good
Inspired by a guest’s apt description of their cocktails as “like observing a magic show, theatre in a glass,” The Alchemist has embraced this wholeheartedly, infusing every aspect of their menu with an element of spectacle.
Divided into distinct categories that reflect the essence of their philosophy, The Alchemist’s drink offerings are a testament to the fusion of chemistry and theatre, light and dark, dreamy and bold.
Here are my recommended top 3 drinks to try:
1: First on the list is the mesmerising Colour Changing One, a true spectacle for the senses. As the name suggests, this enchanting concoction undergoes a magical colour change right before your eyes.
2: For those with a penchant for rum, the Caramelised Jungle Bird is a must-try. But it’s not just the rich, caramelised flavours that make this drink exceptional; it’s the fiery display that accompanies its presentation. Watch in awe as the rum is set ablaze!
3: Last but certainly not least is The Legal One, a cocktail that is served in a smoking bong, offering a truly unique way to savour the flavours within.

What was my experience like at The Alchemist?
Stepping into The Alchemist is like entering another realm. As I settled into my seat and perused the extensive drink menu, it’s impossible not to be captivated by the bartenders’ mastery, their hands moving rapidly but still ever graceful as they craft each cocktail.
Despite the opulent surroundings, The Alchemist is a place where everyone feels welcome, whether you’re a seasoned regular or a cash-strapped student seeking a taste of luxury. And with cocktails that are as delicious as they are strong, it’s no wonder that people (including me) keep coming back time and time again.
As I sipped on my chosen drink, the symphony of lights, bubbles, and swirling smoke added to my excitement. I couldn’t help to ask someone else “What’s that called?” or “What are you getting?” because it really is tempting to get them all! And with the smooth beats of chill EDM music in the background, the atmosphere is both relaxed and upscale, the perfect backdrop for an unforgettable night out. It’s one of the coolest places in the U.K to visit!
For those with a sweet tooth, I also highly recommend the Screwball – it perfectly balances sweetness and creaminess with a kick.
After experiencing all this, I can’t help but already plan my return. After all, when you’ve experienced the magic of this extraordinary establishment, it’s hard to imagine spending your weekends anywhere else.
As accolades continue to pour in, it is clear that The Alchemist has carved a niche for itself in the competitive landscape of hospitality. With each venue bearing testament to its dedication to excellence, The Alchemist continues to redefine the boundaries of drinking at a bar and cocktails, making it one of the best places to visit in the U.K.
Where is it?
With five venues in London alone, it’s one of the best bars in London. But with roots in Manchester, it’s also one of the best bars to come out of Manchester too.
The Alchemist has since spread across 11 more cities, and you can check out if it’s at a city near you.
